“It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look. To affect the quality of the day–that is the highest of arts.” – Henry David Thoreau
Today, engage in some subversive art activity involving a random act of kindness and/or a joyful surprise.
The ground rules:
1. Be creative.
2. Spread some joy.
3. Be anonymous.
4. Use a public space.
5. Keep it legal. (i.e. no property destruction)
For a definition of guerilla art and some inspiration, read this post from Keri Smith.
Imagine finding a a newspaper on a public park bench with a secret message inside? Or hurrying across the sidewalk only to find uplifting quotes scribbled across it? Use your imagination today to create not only a piece of simple, impermanent art but to spread a little much needed kindness and encouragement.
You never know how this can impact someone’s day and who knows, they just may pay that kindness forward.
