I am grateful for my homeschooling family.
Today we began a new project together and started a weekly learning centre. It was a beautiful sight. Littles having space to move around while bigs worked alongside each other on their own lesson work, helping each other and asking for feedback. Mamas floating around to help and to take interest in the learning. Mamas reading stories. Mamas chasing babies. Mamas supporting each other.
I have known these mamas for awhile. Some as long as 8 years. We have had our children grow up together and form close bonds. These are the friendships that go past the trust of friendship and move to a deeper place – the trust of caring for our children. I love all the children. I have watched them all grow and feel out different skins. I am as invested in their future as I am in my own. I am in it for the long haul. Sometimes our families lose touch for a couple of weeks or even longer due to travel or other commitments and my children miss their friends as they would miss siblings.
I am hopeful that this centre will grow and evolve into an open and welcome space for middle school and high school students to learn together and appreciate different perspectives and opinions. For now, it is a gathering of my friends – my family, my spiritual inspiration, my galaxy of stars.
