I am happy to announce that I will be teaching a Book of Hours inspired workshop for tween/teen girls with my good friend Rose Gutierrez at The Voices Symposium for Mental Health presented by Desantos Martial Arts on November 8, 2015 at the University of Toronto. It is an all-day event aimed to help both youth and parents start the discussion on mental wellness and at the same time to de-stigmatize mental illness.
This year the symposium is not just for girls. There are separate boys workshops as well and workshops for youth in general. I especially found the workshops for parents insightful and a way to connect with other parents of teens.

A group of mamas, including myself, are fundraising for the Neema Project. We are “contracting” out the young women to make reusable pads to distribute to girls in their community. The materials are sourced in Kenya, the pads are sewn by seamstresses taught at the school through their business at which they are paid and the pads are distributed to local school girls. Each pad costs $1.50CDN and girls are given 6 pads and one pair of underwear, cost $10.50CDN.
Without pads, girls are missing one week of school every month.
The money donated will be sent through reACT (an organization that one of the mamas works very closely with) to the school, Neema. All of the money will go directly to the pad making and salary of the pad makers.
My friend, Brooke, had a “moon mama” launch party to kick off our efforts. There are more events in the upcoming months where you will be able to help out…I will post more details soon. But if you want to know how you can help now, drop me a line:

From now until the end of our fundraising efforts, I will be donating 5% of my profits of every workshop I teach to this project.
